Small basic traditional bar selling several real ales changing regularly. Plus large selection of malt whiskies on which staff will give advice. All good. Pies served at lunchtime. No machines, music or TV. Very pleasant pub.
Easily my favourite place in Edinburgh. Come in the door and sharp left for best pub seat in town, sharp right if you want to be more social. Beers available good. Whisky for tourists I think.

We went on a Monday and had the 2 for 1 burgers! The burgers were delicious! We were there during the World Cup and they were streaming the games! The place was packed pretty quickly, but it wasn't suffocating or claustrophobia-inducing. We also had the chocolate cake which was delicious! I would highly recommend eating here!
Amazing food! The 2-4-1 burgers on Monday are a must! They hold regular pub quizzes. It is a small pub so make sure to arrive early!

I disagree with another reviewer that says this pub is very expensive , the prices are in line with most Edinburgh pubs , many of which don't have the same standard and quality on offer as they do at Leslies. It's dog friendly too , and the staff are helpful and unlike many places have an interest and a care for what their selling. The landlord and his staff seems to care about his punters and he is always on the ball , unlike some places where the staff are made up of here today gone tomorrow bored globe trotters. the place is clean and still has a working class heart beat to it , but its not gone downhill unlike many of its near by competitors where the atmosphere can be a bit mass market and dicey at times. Lots of regular punters who are friendly and civil so it has a real rooted feel to it. The only gripe I have and my reason for a one less then a full five is that they put in a TV and killed the uniqueness of this place by doing so as it used to be nice to escape into here and feel you'd stepped back in time in a positive way. I hope they get rid of the telly as there are two pubs up the road that already cater for that type of thing.
Such a cool experience! The bar is divided into two with a normal bar and a quieter side. The "quiet" side has tables and small holes in the divider to order from. The bar is in a more residential (and less touristy) part of town, which only adds to the appeal. Get there early (before 6pm) for the best seats. Very friendly staff.

Wonderful experience! The place was packed on a Thursday night but the service was quick and friendly. Everyone in my party except myself had the salmon and they all loved it. I had the beetroot risotto which was wonderful. We had dessert as well which was also delicious. Prices were a bit high but not too bad considering the area. I'd definitely visit again.
I wanted to get away from the crowds on the Royal Mile so I stopped in here to get a late lunch/early dinner. Didn't have to wait long to get a table as I was on my own. It's a cozy spot and the staff is friendly. Everything I ordered was well made, beautiful and tasted great. I wouldn't hesitate to go back again.

Excellent service and excellent food! Really quite a lovely place well worth the visit. Good prices, lovely wine and a varied menu. Would definitely recommend for any occasion.
Went here for a Sunday evening meal as a family group of 4 on the strength of reviews, and we were not disappointed. The decor and lighting is pleasant and modern. We all chose from the bargain menu, the options were varied enough for all our tastes, the portions generous (or standard? Not small anyway) and the food delicious. The single hardworking waitress provided good service, and our food orders arrived swiftly. We'll be back, found a new favourite restaurant!

What a brilliant find for fab good and service. From the moment we entered the restaurant we were made to feel at ease. Paul after doing his gardening was very helpful and talked us through the menu. As I don't like fat he liaised with the chef to help with my choice. The food was excellent and the staff amazing. Thank you for the best dining experience
Lady luck prevailed, we (2 of us) didn't have a reservation (in August) and wandered up the stairs. Another couple couldn't be reached for their reservation and we got the table. Can't say enough good things about the atmosphere, the food, and of course the service. This was our favorite spot in Edinburgh, the venison and the fish were great meals. The walls, candles, and windows just felt so historic. Bundle it all up and it's truly delightful.

Came here with my family for a 70th birthday lunch. A great time had by everyone. Excellent food and service as always, thanks Beijing Banquet, we'll be back again soon.
The best family place I know. We are here almost every month and every time we are happy with the way the food is prepared. Over last five years we found that Staff is always friendly and the place is always clean. Highly recommended. Better then some other buffet place's

I've been going to this place for years and I've never had a bad meal. Service is great and the food is tasty and affordable.
The service is really good～ Food also delicious~ Will come again.

It's really small and the entrance doesn't look the one of a restaurant/shop, so it's quite easy to miss, but oh my god. BEST. DUMPLINGS. EVER. I often dream about them. In general the food is great. The place is run by one man who works alone all day. I hate the trend of calling places "authentic", but I see lots of Chinese people go there so it must be doing something good. I think it's a unique place, you wouldn't normally find something like this in Europe, in my experience (unless you know where to go, I guess, which I don't). Great food, would totally recommend. It doesn't accept cards.
Best noodles in Edinburgh by far. He makes all the noodles himself and most of the time cooks and runs the restaurant by himself. He's always friendly and works hard.

Awesome Indian food concept with small dishes that you can share. We got about 7 of them for the table and they were all delicious. Our kids are not always big fans of Indian food, but they loved it. Definitely worth a visit as a change from the pub grub.
Amazing! We didn’t have a reservation and server immediately tried to assist us. Food came out quickly and was very tasty. Tapas style but portions still filling. By far one of the best Indian food places I’ve been to.
16 Drummond St, Edinburgh EH8 9TX, UK – 0131 556 6040
Very nice meal. Had a couple of small plates (tapas) and just right for a between shows meal. Good choice on menu and quick service too
Brilliant! This restaurant was really good. The food seems completely fresh and in a nice atmosphere. The staff was reactive, helpful, and smiling! What else could you ask for? On top of that, the prices are more than reasonable.

Superb Bangladeshi and Indian food. Excellent service. Enjoyed my meals to the max. I would recommend to anyone.
Friendly and attentive staff. Possible the best Indian meal we’ve had for years. Very impressed.

Excellent Italian restaurant in the heart of Edinburgh! The service was excellent and the staff friendly. The food was fantastic, from the pizza to the pasta. Kids were all begging to go back the next day!
Simply a great place to eat. Staff serving us was great. Gluten free options galore, just be careful that you actually get gluten free food (should have a little Italian flag in it) sometimes they forget to add it. Didn't feel at all rushed even though there was an enormous amount of people waiting at the bar for a table.

Simple lunch menu. Good food. Excellent value. Efficient v pleasant service
Some of the best Italian food in the area. Fresh and delicious. Lots of choices! Friendly service. Good house wines. We keep going back!

Love this restaurant. Food is delicious. The desserts are awesome. Hard to choose from. The service was very attentive but plenty time to enjoy your food.
Great Italian food. Hilarious decor. Awesome ice creams. Service was on point, food was delicious, fast and traditional, no messing about. Walls covered in fofrescoes of famous "Italian" faces throughout history, fictional too, Rock Balboa makes an appearance. People are great and food is really well priced. Had a great time.

I love this place. As a vegan, it's just lovely to see small businesses adapting to the demand. There's always at least 3 vegan soups there, you can order them as a flight and try them all! You also get various choices of bread with your soups, veey creative and original flavours. The vegan chili comes with the best vegan cheese I've ever had! so good! Only disappointment was that there wasn't any vegan butter available for the bread. Union of Genius - if you're reading this, vegan butter please! The best part of the place is their social consciousness. I love their commitment to supporting others as their business grows.
Soup was nice but rather pricey (£4.10 small, £4.70 large). No lighter summery soup options. Everything on the denser, carb-heavy side which is probably great in winter but less so in a hot July.

This is one of the those place where you can get authentic Indian food. Freshly prepared and very tasty. Food was oozing with aroma and service was superb. It is sad that it is only on the same day, earlier I told someone that you do not get authentic Indian taste in Edinburgh. This place has it. Five star..
It was wonderful experience and found authentic Indian taste in food they offered. The owner was also polite with good nature. Looking forward to come again. Definitely recommended for Vegan. 👍
56-58 St Mary's St, Edinburgh EH1 1SX, UK – 0131 556 5888
The food was delicious. It's always great finding a place that serves all vegetarian food, especially when they offer many vegan and gluten free options as well. I would say this is definitely a more classy dining experience, but you wouldn't necessarily know it from the price point. Everything was very reasonable for the high quality. Definitely recommend, especially to vegetarians or vegans visiting Edinburgh.
I am not vegetarian, but a family member we were vacationing with is. He suggested this restaurant as a possibility - and wanting to make him feel comfortable, we all decided to go! The food was prepared amazingly - it didn't attempt to mask what was being served, instead highlighting the main feature of the restaurant, which is to be meat free. The cheese plate I had was supurb, while the hummus was delicious. There was also a pasta dish that was equally scrumptious!

Nice wee cocktail bar. Not to big seating wise. Very intimate. Few chairs and tables down stairs then a little area up stairs with leather couches and side table's candle lighting. Giving 4 star's as your limited to what alcohol they sell but still worth a visit.
Cool little bar, possibly a little too brightly lit for a place aiming for this market, although it IS in the student area of Edinburgh, so probably struggling with a mix of mature clientele for the cocktails & young students looking for cheap beer & shots, who probably would be put off by a more atmospheric looking bar. The two cocktails we had were ok..... I seem to be cursed with ordering 'girlie' looking cocktails this evening as mine came decorated with a small pansy with violet coloured hearts in the foam which was kind of a cool effect, but taste wise not so good, my wife ordered a very different one and they both tasted very similar. Nice friendly lady bar tender/server and the bearded bar tender/server looked the part. Ok for a quick stop in on the way somewhere else.
The Whistle Stop Barber Shop, 66-67 South Bridge, Edinburgh EH1 1LS, UK – 0131 556 0954
4 stars as we were there whilst the world cup final was on and there was a bit of a wait due to it being extremely busy and staff shortage. Food wasn't up to expectations, bit disappointing, burgers certainly not Like the photos we seen in previous reviews. Wrong fries received first time and my burger had a hair in it!! The 2 guy's on duty were very apologetic and embarrassed by the circumstances and wiped our bill clean. They assured us that service would be much better on our next visit! Defo give it another go as they're very concerned about customer service and satisfaction which is rare nowadays in this profession.
Whistle Stop Barber Shop does the very best Burgers in any food joint I've ever eaten in and thats Globally.... Great food , attentive friendly staff and a lovely ambience...... You won't find better anywhere in Edinburgh.
5 Merchant St, Edinburgh EH1 2QD, UK – 0131 225 1770
Swanky Italian furnishings and ambiance. There was some party of, perhaps, a valued client and many guests were there when I dropped by before hitting the sack (I stayed next door). Extensive selection of wines and liquor. Closes very late nights.
We dropped in for a drink on our way back to our hotel. The staff were really friendly, the cocktails were nice and strong. They even provided a bowl of chocolate raisins as a snack for the table. Next time we're in Edinburgh we'll book for dinner!
